Geboren am 30. August 1949, evangelisch-lutherisch, verheiratet, ein erwachsener Sohn.
Nach dem Abitur 1968 und dem Wehrdienst Studium der Geschichte und Geographie an der Universität zu Köln; Anschließend Referendariat und 1977 Eintritt in den Schuldienst des Landes NRW; 1989 stellvertretender Schulleiter am Max-Ernst-Gymnasium in Brühl; seit 1992 Schulleiter am Maximilian-Kolbe-Gymnasium Köln-Porz bis 2013.
1999 bis 2013 Mitglied im Rat der Stadt Köln – seit 2001 Mitglied im Fraktionsvorstand; 2001 Mitglied im Regionalrat des Regierungsbezirks Köln, Sprecher in der Verkehrskommission; seit 2004 Vorsitzender der Verbandsversammlung Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Sieg und Vorsitzender der CDU-Fraktion; seit 2008 Vorsitzender der Verbandsversammlung Nahverkehr Rheinland und Vorsitzender der CDU-Fraktion.

Born on 30 August 1949; Protestant; married, one grown up son.
Obtained Abitur (higher-education entrance qualification) from Soltau academic secondary school in 1968; completed military service from 1968 to 1970; studied history and geography at the University of Cologne from 1970 to 1975; completed second, practical phase of teacher training from 1975 to 1977. Began work as a state-school teacher in North Rhine-Westphalia in 1977; deputy head teacher at Max Ernst academic secondary school in Brühl from 1989; head teacher of Maximilian Kolbe academic secondary school in Cologne from 1992 to 2013.
Member of Cologne city council 1999-2013; member of the finance committee and the transport committee on the same council, where he acted as spokesman on transport policy for the CDU group and as committee chairman from 2004-2009; member of the executive committee of the CDU group on Cologne city council 2001-2013; member of Regional Council of Cologne 2001-2013 and spokesman of its transport committee since 2001; chairman of the assembly of the Rhein-Sieg transport network (VRS) and chairman of the CDU group in the assembly 2004-2013; chairman of the assembly of Rhineland local transport (NVR) and chairman of the CDU group on this assembly 2008-2013.
